MORE CONFIDENCE

The Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill has said that his players should have more confidence in themselves when going on to the pitch next time. Martin O’Neill recently saw his team defeated 3-0 by the champions Manchester city at the Etihad stadium.

Sunderland managed to get a credible 3-3 draw against the champions last season, but this was a case of poor performance. Speaking after the match, Martin O’Neill acknowledged the fact that Manchester city had a brilliant team, but has called for more fighting spirit from his players. He has said that his players certainly lacking in confidence on a few occasions during the match.

He plans to instil confidence in them over the next few days in the hopes of helping them perform well in the big matches. Martin O’Neill has been looking to make a revolution at the stadium of light. He has brought in a number of high profile players like Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher, who will be crucial over the course of the season according to the Irishman. The £ 12 million signing Steven Fletcher has already scored five goals this season. All these goals have helped Sunderland win or draw matches in the Premier league.

“We were well-beaten by a superior team and I have very little complaint about that. My complaint is about us – when we had possession we gave it away too easily. We could have been punished more before the break for that. but. having got to half-time with just one goal in it, we were hopeful for the second half. They were better than us though,” said Martin O’Neill after the match. Despite signing a lot of money in the summer, Sunderland still remain in the bottom half of the table and it will be something Martin O’Neill will be looking to improve in the next few months.
